Turning Your Photographs Into Gifts
Having a photoshoot with a professional photographer can be very exciting, whether it is maternity photography, portrait photography or wedding photography. It certainly should be exciting if your photographer knows what they are doing! Going to see the proofs also feels special as you see what magic the photographer has created from the images they took. It can be a challenge to choose the pictures you want to keep and if you are planning to turn any of them into gifts for friends and family, it can help to have an idea of what sort of gift they will be as you are choosing images.
In the digital age, photographers generally take many more pictures than you or they are likely to need. In fact, despite presenting you with a massive number of proofs to choose from, it is extremely likely that they have already discarded many more shots that had something wrong with them (someone with their eyes shut or an image that is slightly out of focus) or just didn't come out how they would like. So while you may feel overwhelmed by the number you have to choose from, try to bear in mind that it could be worse! If you already know what you will be using the photos for, discussing your ideas with your photographer could help. They will know which images will work best in what sort of format and can point you in the right direction.
Perhaps you know that you want to give something to Great Aunt Betsie, but have no idea what gifts are available, or how you would go about creating them. Here are a few ideas that you can choose from:
A traditional photo album. Aside from having to choose lots of images to go into it, this is a pretty easy option. You choose the photos, then your photographer will come up with some layouts for you to choose from. Once it is all decided, the photographer can have the album created for you. Alternatively, if you have the digital photos, there are many websites where you can create it all yourself.A simple framed picture. This can be anything from a small frame for a shelf, or a massive frame for the wall. Your photographer can give you the right sized image and you can just put it into the frame.Canvas prints. A step up from a standard frame, the image is printed directly onto the canvas which is then stretched around a frame. These are very commonly used for wedding photography as the result looks very impressive.Keyrings. You can buy small keyrings with space for a photograph. Simply buy a small copy of your chosen image and put into the keyring.Mugs, t-shirts etc. These days you can have your image printed onto almost any surface. Ask your photographer if they offer these services, or purchase the digital images and have them made yourself.Calenders. A popular choise of gift for grandparents! Twelve images for twelve months.
